The beginning of the month and we freakin did it again! Everything is due at the beginning of the month-EVERYTHING. Rent was due on the 1st and that is thee biggest bill right now at $1400 per month. We also have to pay the water with our rent so the total was $1480 due no later than the 3rd. Well, my husbands direct deposit was to go in early am on the 3rd-it didn’t. Apparently the company he does work for decided to end direct deposit…guess they forgot to send him THAT memo. They did pay him but sent a check that day. 2 years he has done work for that company and not once have they done that to him. They did send a check later that morning and he deposited it before 2pm. The bank put a hold on it. Great.

All weekend we sat home-careful not to spend a dime. Ate oodles of noodles and crap food to “budget” until the check cleared. We did not want to take any chance and have anything bounce and get hit with fees. Monday came and nothing posted. I felt relief because Tuesday a.m.-my check would get direct deposited and we would be in the clear. We went to bed stressed and even printed out our bank statement because we just had that feeling.

We woke up to an available balance of -$349.32 but had a current balance of $725.68. Huh?

I was mad…furious. It was amazing how they did it. They put the BIGGEST check through for $1480 then the next biggest check and then put through a few smaller ones before they show MY payroll depositing. That is how I have the positive “current” balance. WOW. What is really ironic is the last check to go through without being “over the limit” was our check to the Bankruptcy lawyer. $128 worth of “overdraft fees”. I am sick of banks. The first time I accepted it as maybe I screwed up somewhere but they play dirty. I am sure my check went in BEFORE everything posted. They just made it look like it went in after so they can hit me with fees at $32 each! We would have been fine and would have had more than enough to cover everything. Oh and the reps would not waive 1 fee when we called and pointed this out-not one!

So I guess I need to suck it up and deal with the fact that I need to just make sure that by the end of this month-we budget even more for the beginning of next month. Things like this wont happen or can’t happen if we have more than enough in the bank. I am convinced now that banks love this kind of stuff and prey on the people that are having a hard time. They know who we are. They see our low balances everyday. They wait for opportunities like this. They do it so well! Then all they have to say is-”you should have had the money in the account when you wrote the checks”-yeah ok!

I am mad. Really mad at this one. $128 is a lot of money right now. Gosh…

On a more positive note-I did not receive 1 creditor call-not 1. This is the first time in MONTHS! That was a definite relief.

thats really awful! It is just so frustrating trying to deal with banks and then when they hit you with the fees like that….
I hope things go better next month

I agree with you. I have seen this happen on my bank statement too. I always wonder why when I have like say for example $200.00 in the bank and a check for $50 and $175 go in and they both are over drafted. For heck sake put the $50 one through first. I too need to watch my account more closely. But it does seem like everything is always due at the same time. What I hate about my hubby’s direct deposit is when the secretary goes on vacation and doesn’t get it in on the day it usually does so here it is a day late or when it is a holiday. ARGH! I need that money in NOW!!! So I hear you.

    Good Luck to you.

Oh gosh I know the feeling! We both go through that at least once every couple of months. Checks are late and direct deposit goes in later than usual because SOMEONE was on vacation or out sick. Drives me nuts too.
